2020 SADGA Cropwalks

SADGA has developed two very intensive spring cropwalk programs to view the southern region trial sites for our members and interested participants.

Come along to the SADGA forums to hear about varying topics that ultimately impact on your bottom line. Hear from Dr Sue Stewart (Uni Adelaide) on barley malt flavour, Dr Anh Pham (Uni Adelaide) for the latest regarding drought tolerance research in barley, and Professors Diane Mather and Jason Able (Uni Adelaide) on durum germplasm that has enhanced levels of lutein (value-adding for the durum industry) – just to name a few of the speakers and the areas in which they will focus on.

Due to COVID-19 and the border closure between SA and Victoria our South East cropwalks will only occur in South Australia. However we are looking forward to working with MacKillop Farm Management Group again this year starting at Wolseley and finishing at the Keith NVT.

Dates have been set as follows:

Wednesday, September 2nd: Mid North Durum Crop Walk at Roseworthy:  Program & Maps

Our cropwalks are a free service to Durum Growers and SADGA is looking forward to you joining us on site however on this occasion REGISTRATION WILL BE ESSENTIAL.

Wednesday, October 7th: South East of South Australia Comibined SADGA/MFMG Crop Walk commencing at Wolseley Community & Recreation Centre.  Program and Maps V4 (Updated 06/10/20) or Program Only

Changes to these program will occur without notice and both events are subject to the Australian and State Government COVID-19 restrictions.

2020 SADGA Facilities Tours and Durum Forum

The SADGA team, with the generous support of San Remo and The University of Adelaide, will be recognising Durum from a beginning to end point of view.

We invite you to join us in Adelaide to tour The Waite Campus to view the breeding centre where the Durum process begins, you will see robotics at work in the plant accelerator, and the state-of-the-art lab as well as Hugh Wallwork’s famous terraces and the glass houses where Hugh does all his crossings. We are also fortunate to be given an exclusive tour of the San Remo Milling Facility. A rare opportunity to see and understand the process of turning our golden grain into high quality pasta for the end user.

Following the tours which includes a complimentary lunch at Beltana Cafe we reconvene at the Charles Hawker Conference Centre Auditorium for the 2020 Durum Forum, a comprehensive, multi speaker insight into all things durum, plus reports of the seasonal trials and breeding program outcomes, new chemistry, as well as information about marketing at domestic levels and the global demand and much much more.

The program concludes with a complimentary two course meal at Beltana Cafe with special guest dinner speaker Deanna Lush. Deanna is an award winning journalist and Managing Director of AgCommunicators.  Deanna has completed a Churchill Fellowship studying communication and engagement methods to improve the understanding of agriculture between rural and metropolitan audiences and delivered numerous presentations across Australia and across all food and fibre sectors on her Churchill recommendations to build trust in agriculture. Deanna’s work on trust in agriculture won her the Australian Farm Institute John Ralph Essay Award, she was recognised in 2019 as an emerging South Australian business leader in the InDaily 40 Under 40 Awards and winner of the 2019 SA AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award.
Deanna’s presentation ‘Earning trust with our community’ will draw together her learnings and insights from her travel and research, and enable us, as an agricultural community, to consider what we do on our farms day-in, day-out and how we communicate it
